Is driving in Moscow a nightmare with traffic

Faucage
Hey everyone, heading to Moscow soon and trying to decide whether to bother with a car or just stick to the metro. Thing is I keep hearing horror stories about the jams there, and I am honestly a bit worried about getting stuck for hours or ending up in some mega tailback. Is it really that bad or is it manageable if you plan your day right?

Look, the jams are real, nobody will lie to you about that, but they are not some eternal gridlock that swallows your whole day. Avoid the main ring roads at peak morning and evening hours and you cut out most of the pain right there. The centre is walkable and the metro covers the rest, a car is really handy when you need to hit the outskirts or haul shopping back to your place. To find a car to rent in Moscow just browse the listings this site https://getrentacar.com/en-US/russia/moscow .

Download an offline map of the city before you land, the traffic layer works way better when you are not burning through mobile data. The ring roads clog up fast but a good nav app will pull you off onto side streets and save you sitting there fuming.
