After our talk last week I think identity is more important to me than I previously realized. My thinking is that morality can only come from identity. If a person's identity is their source of morality then they can't maintain their identity based on a facade. If the identity they're born into isn't moral then their only option is to convert. I think people are remarkably flexible in being able to convert but I do not know of any cases where people are in between two identities.
Here are examples of people whom obviously have converted. These are extreme examples. I'm showing them to point out that you can convert. I'm also showing them because I'm arguing that you can't be inbetween. |

I think many people have mixed identities like Jewish+American or Mexican+American. I identify as Mikraite and as a programmer. My goal is to minimize members identifying with modern culture and maximize identifying with Mikraite.

I think Jewish+American and Mexican+American examples don't work. This is just using multiple words to describe what people feel is one thing. For example I cannot say Muslim+Jew or Christian+Muslim. I think the way your going about the first part of your goal negatively effects the second part of your goal. It is no wonder that none of our wives/girlfriends will respect the identity of our religion when we don't even have confidence in it ourselves. It is also no wonder that you've failed to convince any other Jew/Christian/Muslim to join Mikraite.

I think "modern" is an extremely convoluted and unhelpful term. I don't know where the term originated but I do know what it means in architecture. In architecture modern refers to a pre World War II style of architecture. By today's standards modern architecture is significantly more civilized than what is now called "post-modern". Compare Mies Van Der Rohe's house (modern) to Frank Gehry's house (post-modern). I see modern as a new enlightened priesthood. Modernists changed the old rules but still appealed to authority, the authority was just misguided. Many modern architects still designed with humanity in mind. They still disciplined their ego. For example no post-modern architect today would propose a communist like vision as Le Corbusier did with his Radiant City. Post-modernism is more like atheists who've rebuked authority all together and returned to savagery. So how does the word modern in architecture apply to culture? If the same era for modern and post-modern is applied to culture then this makes no sense to me. The United States was culturally pretty good in the early 20th century. Regarding choosing between another group and Mikraite, I think people already are doing this. We haven't had anyone from any other group join us and actively remain in another group. My view is that this shows that people want one strong identity. There's no need for us if they have an identity somewhere else and vice versa. |

I think we need to respect human nature. A good religion to a woman is one that is moderate to big, has an established brand with clearly recognizable external symbols and traditions they can perform. Right now our religion has none of this so women have every reasons to despise our religion. The only reason our group works for us is because we're all men and therefore can appreciate the value of discussion to some degree even if it has bared limited real world fruit. |

I would suggest that morality is about bringing about group solidarity. That is why religion is about imposing morality to stop members of the group from killing, fighting each other and committing adultery with each other's wives lowering group solidarity and making them a less efficient fighting force against invading forces.
Religare is the Latin for religion meaning "to bind". What does religion bind? Society. Once you understand the purpose of these rules, there is no need to convert to Judaism, is there?

I think what matters is the rules we agree to obey, ie what laws we think are fair enough rather than whether we believe in God or are polytheists, whether we believe He is Trinitarian or Unitarian, or if Jesus is divine. I would say I am agnostic, but see the utility of God and His laws as an instrument of government and social order.
