Best way to grab wheels for a France road trip

Faucage
Hey everyone, planning a trip through France soon and I want to hit the countryside, maybe loop through Provence and the Loire Valley without being tied to train timetables. How do you folks usually find a solid rental deal that does not come with a bunch of hidden fees tacked on at the counter?

The train network is decent between big cities, but once you want to explore the smaller villages and vineyards, having your own wheels makes a massive difference, just avoid picking up right at the airport if you can because those desks slap on extra charges like crazy. A much smoother way to rent a car in France is booking through a platform that connects you directly with local owners, and you can browse the available listings right here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/france .

Stick to a compact hatchback unless you are hauling a ton of luggage, the parking spots in old town centers are ridiculously tight, and a big SUV will leave you circling the block for ages.
